Care instructions
Thank you for choosing products from the Alexandre Turpault range.
To fully respond to your questions on caring for your linen, we have compiled a comprehensive and exhaustive list of questions and answers on washing and caring for your products.
In order to ensure that you are completely satisfied with your products, all our fabrics and items are rigorously tested to guarantee you the best quality.
The natural fibres that we select, such as linen or cotton, are noble and authentic materials that soften with repeated washing. Gentleness is the key word in caring for them.
The more you wash your linen, the more beautiful, radiant, soft and pleasant it will become.
Before using them for the first time, we advise you to soak your items overnight in cold water, and then to machine wash them at 40 °. This precaution will remove any residual finishes or pigments, minimise any shrinkage in your linen and increase its resistance to dirt.
- What do washing care symbols mean?
Before putting any washing in your machine, we strongly recommend that you pay careful attention to the symbols on the product label. Following these care instructions will make your linen more attractive.

- What type of detergent should I use?
For coloured fabrics, it is preferable to use a special detergent without bleaching agents, which may alter or fade the colour of your linen. With a detergent specifically for colours, the brightness of the colours will be retained.
For whites, choose a mild detergent or soap product and use the recommended amount. In this way your linen will retain its original whiteness.
In all cases, do not use too much detergent, as it is already very powerful and too much may cause damage to fibres
- Why do the colours 'cream' and 'natural' change with the use of care products?
Natural fibres such as Linen and Cotton have an unbleached natural colour due to microscopic impurities.
The 'natural' colour is the original colour of the fibre. It is darker or lighter according to the nature of the fibre. The 'cream' colour is obtained after washing with detergent.
Over the course of repeated washes, the impurities are removed and cleaned by detergent products. You will see a bleaching of the fabric. It will occur more or less rapidly and be more or less pronounced depending on the products used. It is therefore important to follow the following specific care recommendations:
- systematically wash all the pieces from a set of linen at the same time
- use a mild detergent without a whitening agent
- Can I wash different colors together?
No, before each wash, make sure you separate your items into light or dark colours.
We recommend that you wash your set of bedding and any towelling of the same colour together.
We recommend that you wash your pillowcases and duvet covers inside out to protect the colours.
Do not wash your linen (in particular towelling) with clothing with buttons, hooks or zips, which may catch on fibres and damage delicate linen.
- Will my linen shrink when washed?
Natural fabrics are subject to a small amount of shrinkage the first time they are washed. The sizes of our products take this into account.
Nonetheless, if you wash and dry your linen at a high temperature, the shrinkage will be greater. So make sure that you use the correct washing and drying temperatures given to limit any shrinkage.
We recommend that you always treat stains before washing.
Here are some tips for easy stain removal:
Butter and margarine: dab with diluted washing up liquid. Repeat the operation several times if necessary. Then wash as usual.
Wax: Carefully remove the wax with your nail. Place the stained item between two pieces of tissue paper or blotting paper and press down with a hot iron. The remaining wax will be absorbed by the paper.
Coffee and tea: Apply a borax solution (1 measure of borax to 6 measures of water) directly to the stain. Then wash with warm soapy water.
Fruit and berries: Sprinkle with salt and mild liquid soap. Leave for a few hours and rinse thoroughly.
Grease: Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda or terre de Sommières (a fine clay powder) onto the stain and leave for a few hours. Scrape off and repeat the operation. Brush to remove the powder and wash as usual.
Mould and rust: Apply white vinegar or lemon juice to get rid of the mould. Leave in the sun to dry for a few hours. Wash as usual, but separate from other items.
Lipstick: Scrape off the maximum possible of the stain with a blunt knife. Use a stain removal product for fabrics before washing and rub with a clean white cloth. Then wash as usual.
Blood: Immediately clean any bloodstains with cold water (never use hot water, which will set the stain permanently) Then, leave to soak in cold water with two cups of salt for 24 hours and wash as usual.
Red wine and jam: rub immediately with sparkling water, then wash as normal.
We strongly advise you not to use bleach or other chlorine-based detergents. These products damage fibres and fade colours.
- Is it possible or recommended to take my linen to the dry-cleaner's?
In general, it is neither necessary nor recommended to take items to the dry-cleaner's. However, some products (such as accessories) must be dry-cleaned to avoid them being spoiled. In all cases you should refer to your product's care label.
- Drying my linen
For your bed and table linen, yes, if the care instructions allow it. However, ensure that you use it at a low temperature and take the washing out before the end of the drying cycle. To avoid crumpling your linen and creating creases, do not completely fill your tumble dryer.
For your bathroom linen, tumble drying is recommended as it restores thickness and softness to your towels.
- How can I dry my linen without a tumble dryer?
When the washing cycle is finished, dry your linen in the open air, spreading it out as far as possible.
Line drying will ensure less creasing.
We recommend that do not put your linen away until it is completely dry, and store it flat.
- What is the best temperature for ironing?
For ease of use, use a hot iron and iron your linen while it is still damp. We suggest that you iron your linen on the reverse side to avoid creases, marks and the deterioration of your product (embroidery, satin ribbons etc).
- Caring for towelling
- Should towelling be washed a special way?
Before using them for the first time, wash your towels and bathrobes. The towelling will be softer and more absorbant *.
Make sure you always separate light and dark colours
We advise against using a fabric softener, as it makes towelling less absorbant. On the other hand, tumble drying is recommended as it restores thickness and softness to your towels.
* towelling reaches its maximum absorption capacity after several washes.
- Can I wash towelling with my bed linen?
Yes, you can wash towelling with bed linen, as long as all your items are the same colour.
- Can satin ribbons go in the washing machine?
Yes, the satin ribbons as well as any embroidery are machine washable. We pay particular attention to our products and we guarantee that you can machine wash products according to their care labels.
However, you should iron products on the reverse side so as not to damage the finishings.
